2011-07-22 – Friday Whisper – Moment of Truth…

I was watching the Arabic version of “Moment of Truth” (for those who are not familiar with, check the following link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Moment_of_Truth_(U.S._game_show). In a nutshell, the participant wins cash when he/she answers personal questions truthfully in public.

So, if you are participating and I ask you: have you ever gossiped about your brother-in-law? Have you ever cheated on your spouse? Have you ever made fun of your friends behind their backs? Do you wish you were still single? Have you ever lied to your spouse?  What would your answer be, especially when revealing it in front of your brother-in-law/spouse/friend who are sitting in the same room, speaking in front of the whole world?

And the questions are related to people we love, not our enemies … It is weird how we feel comfortable doing bad things to people we say we care about…

So I thought, what will happen if we lead our lives in a way, when we are asked similar questions, publicly, we will be proud of our answers… How about evaluating our behavior before we are evaluated? Review how we treat others in their absence and presence… and what we can do to improve… How would this affect the quality of our lives, our relationship with others and our inner peace…

Even if we don’t agree with others’ way of thinking, let’s start by accepting them… and if we really think they need to change a behavior, let’s find a way to communicate a constructive comment, instead of criticizing them just to show that we know better…

It won’t be an easy task, that’s for sure, as we have to undo old habits and acquire new ones 😉 So how about taking this challenge? Even if we don’t get to the ultimate behavior we think we should have… just the fact of moving towards it, slowly but surely, will make us feel much better…

Jesus said: “Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.”

And Prophet Mohamed (pbuh) said: “The tongue is like a beast. If you don’t tie it up, it attacks you.”

Face yourself with the whole truth and nothing but the truth…
